This guide is general education that summarizes published research and guidance from groups like the American Academy of Pediatrics, the CDC, and the WHO. It isn’t medical advice, and every child develops on their own timeline. Your pediatrician knows your child; if something feels wrong, call them. In an emergency, call 911.

Thirty-four weeks and six days. A small, practical errand today, and one that makes the next few weeks more comfortable: a bra that fits the body you have now.

## Your baby

Around now your baby is around 45cm long from head to heel, about the size of a cantaloupe melon ([NHS](https://www.nhs.uk/best-start-in-life/pregnancy/week-by-week-guide-to-pregnancy/3rd-trimester/week-34/)). They're still putting on weight; the NHS describes these weeks as the time a perfectly formed baby fills out ([NHS](https://www.nhs.uk/best-start-in-life/pregnancy/week-by-week-guide-to-pregnancy/3rd-trimester/week-32/)). Your body is getting ready to keep feeding them once they're out.

## Your body

Your breasts may be large now and may leak a yellowish fluid called colostrum ([NHS](https://www.nhs.uk/best-start-in-life/pregnancy/week-by-week-guide-to-pregnancy/3rd-trimester/week-34/)). It's an early milk, rich in antibodies, and it can start weeks or months before the birth; your milk itself typically comes in 3 to 5 days after the baby is born ([NHS](https://www.nhs.uk/best-start-in-life/pregnancy/week-by-week-guide-to-pregnancy/3rd-trimester/week-35/)). After birth, breasts may leak and feel full even if you're not breastfeeding ([OWH](https://womenshealth.gov/pregnancy/childbirth-and-beyond/recovering-birth)).

Your skin may be changing too. A small number of women get an itchy red rash in the third trimester, most often after 34 weeks and usually on the belly; it doesn't harm you or the baby and goes away after delivery ([MedlinePlus](https://medlineplus.gov/ency/patientinstructions/000611.htm)). Skip perfumed products on itchy skin, and talk with your provider before taking an antihistamine ([MedlinePlus](https://medlineplus.gov/ency/patientinstructions/000611.htm)).

## Try today

### The nursing-bra fit

- **Time:** 30 minutes

1. Get measured now, at a shop fitting or with a tape at home, rather than guessing from your old size.
2. Choose soft and comfortable, one you can open with one hand, with room to spare on the loosest hook.
3. Buy two, not six. Your size may change again when your milk comes in, typically 3 to 5 days after birth ([NHS](https://www.nhs.uk/best-start-in-life/pregnancy/week-by-week-guide-to-pregnancy/3rd-trimester/week-35/)).
4. Put one in the hospital bag, with a few breast pads.

**Make it work:** Not planning to breastfeed? A soft, supportive bra still helps, because breasts can leak and feel full either way ([OWH](https://womenshealth.gov/pregnancy/childbirth-and-beyond/recovering-birth)).

## Watch for

- **Normal:** an itchy red rash on your belly, which is harmless ([MedlinePlus](https://medlineplus.gov/ency/patientinstructions/000611.htm)). **Call your provider** about itching that won't stop when there's no rash, because it may be a sign of a liver condition called cholestasis ([MedlinePlus](https://medlineplus.gov/ency/patientinstructions/000611.htm)).
- **Normal:** yellow colostrum stains on your bra ([NHS](https://www.nhs.uk/best-start-in-life/pregnancy/week-by-week-guide-to-pregnancy/3rd-trimester/week-34/)). **Call your provider right away** about any vaginal bleeding; about 1 in 10 women have some in the third trimester, and late in pregnancy MedlinePlus says to always report it ([MedlinePlus](https://medlineplus.gov/ency/patientinstructions/000627.htm)).
- **Normal:** leg cramps, which are common in the last months; stretching your legs before bed may help ([MedlinePlus](https://medlineplus.gov/ency/patientinstructions/000580.htm)). **Call your provider** right away for pain and swelling in one leg but not the other, which can signal a blood clot ([MedlinePlus](https://medlineplus.gov/ency/patientinstructions/000580.htm)).

## For you

Comfort isn't vanity this late in pregnancy. If you've spent weeks in a bra that digs in, notice how much better a good fit feels, and let that be a reason to say yes to other small comforts too. And if feeling uncomfortable in your own body is wearing you down, that's worth saying out loud; the NHS's list for this week includes talking to your doctor or midwife if you feel anxious or low ([NHS](https://www.nhs.uk/best-start-in-life/pregnancy/week-by-week-guide-to-pregnancy/3rd-trimester/week-34/)).

If you're the partner: this is an easy errand to run with her or for her. Pick up the breast pads while you're out, and carry the bag.
